I NO BE YOUR BROTHER

Recently, a guy was complaining about how a particular lady he likes so much turned him down because they have been very close friends for a long period. This closeness over the years has made the lady start seeing the guy as a brother and for this singular reason she won’t be able to date the guy.

This is one of the many experiences I get everyday of ladies saying a guy who had become so close to them has automatically turned their brother, placing them in a zone known as ‘brother zone’. Unfortunately a few guys have started joining the trend placing ladies in ‘sister zone’ ..

This brings me to a very important issue I will like to address. How reasonable is it not dating a guy or a lady because you see him as a brother or sister ..

I will be writing from a guy’s point of being placed in a ‘brother zone’ while of course my thoughts here can also be seen from the ladies angle …

For one thing , I think it’s the best feeling in the world if you get to date some body very close to you. If we were  in a society where it’s cool to date a family member, some of us will probably be dating a family member because of the closeness.

You  already know each other in and out that the period for getting to know each other is already thrown out and of course there is genuineness in the character display of both parties because there was no intentions or whatsoever while getting to know each other .

For another thing, it makes the relationship easy to operate. The guy already knows what the lady likes and dislikes, wants and don’t want, and it’s easier to abide by them because he is used to them over time .

Yet another reason is the fact that the guy will not want to do what will hurt the lady due to the fact they have been coming a long time as friends not just as a lover now, of course we attach so much importance to how we treat our friends. Then, in the event of any hurtful actions, it’s easier to resolve when you are dating a very close friend. It’s always fun dating a close friend .

Some ladies will argue that he already knows all their secrets and they know his, hence he is too close. Last time I checked, keeping secrets from each other destroys relationship. So knowing each other’s secrets is a plus to the relationship as this will eliminate any traces of suspicion and hidden activities and encourage openness.

To borrow the words of Adekunle Gold, “na only me my mama born“, in other words I know my brother when I see him. So in all seriousness, I am not your brother and you not my sister so why close the door to a wonderful opportunity that could last a life time .

My sister, when next you have the chance to date a very close friend who you feel is a brother, please jump at the offer as this will save you a lot of stress in meeting a new person, doing the initial shakara, getting to know him, accepting his proposal and then learning more things about him which might not be an easy process.

These are my thoughts as expressed in this article, I will love to read your take on the above subject as I know it differs from one person to the other .

Thank you for reading, I will be back soon.

REAL LIFE LESSONS TO LEARN FROM SUPER EAGLES OF NIGERIA AT AFCON 2013

FBL-AFR-2013-NIGERIA-CAPE-VERDE-FRIENDLYafcon 2013

The Confederation of African Football’s African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) 2013 has come and gone, with the super eagles of Nigeria crowned the king of African football. In 19 years, this is the first time the eagles will win the cup as the last time they achieved such feat was in the 1994 when the present head coach of the super eagles, Stephen Keshi was the captain on the national side.

I am very sure we are still basking in their euphoria of the win and in celebration mood as football loving Nigerians. The date 10th February, 2013 will remain in the hearts and minds of so many Nigerian because we have craved long for this and it has finally been delivered to us 19 years after.

Nonetheless, achieving such feat didn’t come on a platter of gold, it didn’t come so easy. As a matter of fact, it came with its own fair of criticism, hardwork, determination, focus, dream and aspirations. As I reflect on the path of the super eagles to greatness once more, I discover that their story is actually one to be considered as it has real life lessons for each and every one of us no matter our endeavor  Before I enumerate the lessons, let’s take a little insight into Stephen Keshi and the super eagles of Nigeria’s story.

Stephen-Keshi

The first week of November 2011 for the football followers will come to mind as the week when the announcement of STEPHEN KESHI as the coach of the super eagles filtered into every part of the country and since then, has been in charge of the super eagles. He qualified the super eagles for the just concluded nations cup held in south Africa with the team and players he met on ground. Then the heavy task of building a team that will be competitive enough at the nations cup started. It obviously took him months to get a crop of young players together for the nations cup.

The journey to the nations cup began on the 9th of January when the Head coach of the super eagles released the list of the 23 players that will be participating in the nations cup. To the amazement and surprise of many Nigerians, he had excluded the so-called big boys of Nigerian football. The already established players who ply their trade in different parts of the world and whom Nigerians were actually seeing as the best Nigeria can produce had not been taken. He had further included the names of 6 fairly known players or better still home-based players (those that ply their football career in Nigeria) and 17 players who will be going to the cup of nations for the first time in their career. This decision by the coaching crew was not easily accepted by Nigerians as we all felt he should have included our big-boys who have gone to the cup of nations before, who have played at different levels, who have experience and who we feel can represent us properly not bunch of inexperienced, young, unknown, home-based players. This didn’t deter the coaching crew who have already made their decision and obviously nothing could be done about it.

On the 19th of January, 2013, the AFCON kicked off and many never gave the super eagles a chance including me (though I loudly support the eagles but inside of my I knew I was just saying all I have been saying because it was my country). The tales of many woes started when the team drew its first and second matches respectively. The criticism started, the analysis rolled out, tongues wagging from different angles, insults and abusive words were used on the super eagles for their seemingly poor performance. As the story goes, the eagles managed to qualify from the group stage and were to meet a very big favourite for the competitions trophy, Cote d’ivoire, but the eagles overcame the obstacle and went further into the competition. Next it was their West African neighbour Mali that confronted them in the semi-final, yet the super eagles won and qualified for the final against Burkina Faso which they successfully won and were crowned the champions of African Football for the third time in history and their first in nineteen years.

Taking a look at the insight of the Super Eagles story to success, they are lessons for us to learn and apply in our various field of lives. I will be picking them one after the other starting from the head coach to the team and finally the fans/Nigerians reactions.

THE CROWD MAY ALWAYS NOT BE RIGHT:  with his list for the AFCON 2013 without the big-boys, STEPHEN KESHI was heavily criticized but he was undeterred and believed in his dreams, aspirations and strength. In life, we make certain unpopular decisions because we feel those are the right decisions to make and because they are not what people expect they will say all sorts of things, but be determined to believe In yourself, dreams, aspirations, strength and do not feel weighed down to change. As long as you are convinced that those are the right decision, stick to them. THE CROWD MAY NOT ALWAYS BE THE BEST TO FOLLOW.

emenike and moses in actionsunday mba

ALL THAT GLITTER ARE NOT GOLD: Keshi excluded the big boys from the team that he took to AFCON 2013 because he saw through them that they had nothing to offer compared to raw talents he had. For the fact that somethings have been and people are used to them, it doesn’t make them the best that can be gotten. The way they , certainly not be the way they are so the power of perception and insight should always come to the fore.

DON’T STOP BELIEVING: after the very first two matches, the team was already written off by many Nigerians except a few. Most people never thought they will qualify to the next round but they did. People will give up on you especially when they never gave you a chance from the beginning but it is yours to keep the flame of hope alive by believing in yourself and trusting that you made the right decision. IF IT IS TO BE, IT IS UP TO YOU

champions of africasuper eagles 2

PEOPLE ASSOCIATE WITH YOU ONLY AFTER YOUR SUCCESS: the success of the Nigeria Super Eagles shows this in every aspect. At the last minute, when success was looming around Keshi and his infamous team, every body, including those who never believed in him even till the final day started making positive comments about him and the team. Different slogans and graphics were flying from every corner. immediately the final whistle was blown and it dawned on millions of African all across the world that Nigeria will have the bragging right for the next two years, Keshi became a demi-god everywhere. his praise was sang all over the place and nice words were said about him. this only goes to show that nobody values what you do, nobody will give you a chance, nobody will associate with you until you become a success.

joy

Who says u cant achieve against all odds? Keshi did it.
Who says u cant rise again after failing d first time? Super Eagles did it.

Why limiting yourself because of sooth sayings  assumptions, excuses, being underrated, challenges etc? Go all out and break a BONE.

THANK YOU, WORDPRESS

This is a little different from what I have always written. I only so indebted that I really have to write this and if I don’t I  won’t be satisfied.

I had noticed that I had a flair for writing right from a tender age but couldn’t get a plat form to do. I thought that I will go to the university to study a course like mass communication and major in the print media so that I can always write but my dream came to an end when I gained admission into the university to study physics/electronics. For five years, I see my dream run away from me without me being able to chase it. I live everyday wishing that I could showcase what I have and master my art of writing.

wordpress

Then I came across wordpress.com and things never remained the same since that day. I have been able to get my confidence back. I am able to write my articles and my thoughts now. I am to show the world what I have inside and I can now develop my writing skills. I am grateful to wordpress.com for bringing close to thousands of writers that I can read, learn and develop myself.

thank you

I just want to use this article to say thank you for giving this opportunity.

RIGHT TO HEALTH

imagesMany a times, we hear that accidents victims are refused treatment because there is no initial deposit of funds for their treatment and most often than not these victims end up dead. It only makes me wonder what is wrong with the medical profession. I ask myself many questions like: are these medical practitioners not humans with feeling? Are they also being thought to be wicked in the medical school (because that is how I see it)? Is money more important than saving the lives of people that they actually went to school for? Did they actually go to medical school because they want to save lives or because of the money? So many questions come into my mind when I hear or read about such ugly incidents.

On the other hand, I don’t want to be too judgmental towards these medical practitioners as we have seen a lot of them render treatment to victims or patients without initial deposit of money and at the end of the treatment don’t get their money paid. Of course, no body will want to venture into a business to make a loss, so also, these medical practitioners spend a lot of funds on the treatment of one patient or accident victim and it will only be so heart-breaking and spirit-damping not to the necessary money after the treatment. Evaluating these two situations only made make wonder who really should pay more attention to medical care, should it be the government or the private sector.

I will be baring my own candid opinion on the subject on who I feel should be more involved in medical care. To start with, I will say that the government should have more part to play in the provision of medical care.

Firstly, the government’s responsible involvement will obviously reduce the cost of treatment that we get as the private hospitals. It has become a very common practice for this private hospitals to exaggerate the level of illness of a patients and the treatment in order to give out a very huge bill because that is the reason why there were set up; maximizing more profits than the treatment given to a patient. The government will help reduce the cost of treatment since their main aim of setting up such hospitals is not solely for profit-making but for rendering proper medical services to the people who need them.

images (1)

Another major reason is the facilities available in these hospitals. If we were to draw a comparison between the facilities in government and private hospitals, we’ll see that there are no basis for comparison. Most private hospitals around don’t have enough facilities in terms on both human resources and materials compare to the government hospitals and this is due largely to the fact that the government have much more money to invest in this hospitals.

The availability of specialists is another reason why the government should provide medical care. In very many private hospitals, we have a very few number of doctors who oversee the general affair of hospitals and have nurses who provides assistance, while of courses, the government hospitals also have nurses, but they have an overwhelming number of specialists who see to different department of the hospitals. In a typical government hospital, there are departments such as dentistry, cardiology, intensive care unit

(ICU), accidents & emergency (A&E),ear, nose and throat(ENT), gynaecology, maternity, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, pharmacy to mention just a few because the list goes on. These departments all have heads that are specialized in that particular field. A private hospital will hardly be able to boast of these departments with a high number of specialists.

Finally, the availability of these healthcare services to the rural area is largely dependent on the government. I have discovered that the very best of these private hospitals will only establish in urban areas where they can maximize profits. With the involvement of the government in the health care, those in the rural areas will have access to quality health care at a very low and affordable cost.

I wont complete this article without saying that the government will really have to pay attention to  this sector if they must provide quality healthcare to the people they govern because it has been noticed that the government hospitals have been left unfunded, this is due to the lackadaisical attitude of the government. I am using this medium to call on the government to be more responsible with respect to funding the health sector.

What’s your view on the health sector in your area, do you feel that the government should be responsible for providing health care or it should be left to the private sector?

NB: I wrote this article with respect to my environment, what is attainable where I am might be quite different from yours so you might have a different opinion. Feel free to share your opinion.

MY READING AND WRITING SPACE

As a blogger, writing is the major thing i do, while reading helps me to broaden my scopes and ideas. Reading also helps to create a mental picture of what i want our next article to look like; therefore it is highly important for a blogger to always read.

tumblr_md4y22bshM1qbrk03o1_500If I have to design my ideal reading and writing space, what will it have? I am going go let you into my world as a new blogger and what I wish desire and dream that my ideal writing and reading room will grow into.

The very first things in an ideal writing and reading room will be the furniture-table and chair. A very comfortable, spacious and well-designed table and chair will be of paramount interest because as a blogger, a lot of writing needs to be done. I obviously won’t be on a standing position and expecting to churn out wonderfully written articles.

After my furniture, my writing materials will be next. By writing materials, I mean my pen, pencil, notepad and writing paper. these are highly necessary because some articles take more than just a sitting to write, so as the ideas and points come, I will have to just write them down in my note pad before developing them into full articles worth publishing.

A book shelf and a mini-library will also not be a bad idea for my dream reading and writing space. This will enable me to keep a catalogue of books and refer to them in the event that I might need references for my articles.

Then, a computer system, most preferably a laptop connected to the internet will make the space a very complete space. As a blogger, reading blogs of other bloggers should be a routine thing. It will help you create a community of friends where ideas can be shared and exchanged. It will also enable me have insight into articles I want to write and I can do online reference for the article. With the aid of the internet, I will be able to publish my fully written article for my readers to read.

That’s just my dream reading and writing space, what is your ideal reading and writing space?

DO IT YOURSELF

Hello peeps, it’s good to be back here again to pick up from where I stopped that last time. What do I have today…*thinking*…okay, I am writing on a subject that I feel will affect most of us  because it is a thing that we overlook most times but which can be very helpful and beneficial in many ways.

Have you seen this abbreviation anywhere before now, D.I.Y. not many of us will readily remember what it means except for the headline of this article, it actually stands for DO IT YOURSELF which I will be referring to as DIY in this article.

DIY is actually as the name implies is refers to any activity that you do yourself without calling on the attention of a skilled personnel or a professional. Most cases, DIY occurs when we need to build, modify or repair something. Let me share my experience before I continue with the article

ImageTwo days back, I was in the kitchen cooking and my mom was also there too at about 8:00 PM, when suddenly the bulb went off and there was total darkness in the kitchen. It was so dark that we could barely see ourselves until I brought out my phone, thank God that it had torchlight. As was the custom in my house, replacing a burnt bulb was always never an issue, so I got a new bulb, got the domestic ladder and 1, 2, 3 up I went to the top of the ladder fix the bulb, and as I was about doing that, the lamp holder just pulled off the wire that it was attached to. On seeing this, the next word that came out of my mum’s mouth was the name of our electrician. Obviously, my mum was implying that we will need to call on the electrician to come and fix it. The electrician is one young man who does every electrical work in our house, from installation to maintenance to repairs, so it was not out-of-place that she mentioned his name.

But I was immediately infuriated for so many reasons, ranging from the fact that I could do but I wouldn’t be given a chance to the fact that if they decide to call the electrician, he will bring a bill for just fixing a lamp holder back to its place and replacing the bulb. That moment I resolved that I was going to imbibe the spirit of DIY, which I successfully did and the kitchen is lightened up again.

There are so many benefits when you DIY. You will be able to save the money you are supposed to give professionals for doing what you actually can do. As much as you may feel that this amounts are so small, but the truth is this little amounts of money when saved will obviously make a huge amount in no time.

Another benefit of DIY is the fact that you get to become knowledgeable in areas you never would have thought you could. There’s a popular sayings. ‘’no knowledge is a waste’’, that is the result when you DIY, you never can tell when that knowledge u gathered from doing it yourself will be needed and appreciated.

ImageFurthermore, when you DIY, it gives you confidence that no matter what time of the day or month or year that anything needs repair, you’ll certainly have no fear of not getting professionals, since you can do it yourself. Though, while it is true that it’s not all faults that we can fix ourselves but the little ones that don’t need some much skill can be done without the help of any skilled personnel.

Finally, DIY cuts across many aspects of life, it isn’t limited to a particular sphere, so everybody can Learn to DIY today as it goes a long way in helping you solve some minor issues on time every time.

FOR MY DAD

fatherimages My parents are the greatest influence that I have ever had in life and for this I am most grateful. To so many people, there are so many things that they to show that they appreciate their parents. Now, I have seen many people write articles to appreciate their parents especially their mothers but I am going the opposite direction on this one. I am simply going to dedicate this article to the man who has faith in me no matter how many times I disappoint him. The man who knows I am capable of doing anything I set up heart to no matter how many times I fail. The man who gets annoyed with me when I misbehaves and still understands that it’s youthful exuberance and still encourages me to be better in everything I do. This is for the greatest influence in my life and I proud to call him my DAD.

My dad might not get to read this for many reasons amongst which are the fact that he doesn’t just browse for no specific reason, most times when he is on the internet he has something he has to do and once he is done with it, he just logs out and disconnects. Also, he doesn’t know I operate this blog for whatever reason, so he just might not see this article, but if peradventure he gets to see this, I just want him to know that he is doing a great job in making me the man who can stand on his own despite my many disappointments.

My dad is one man who anyone will like once you interact with him. He is principled yet very flexible. He wants the best for me because it’s for me own good not because he wants a return from me when I start making my own ends meet. My dad is one man who if every dad were to be like him, then the world will be a better place to live in. My dad makes me want to look forward to every day. My dad is a man who is good at what he does and wants me to be good at what I do.

No amount of money will be enough to appreciate my dad, no gift can I buy to say thank you and no better way to celebrate my dad, than taking this time out to write this few words to tell the whole world how much I appreciate and celebrate the most important man in my life; MY DAD.

dad u r d best To a caring father, a loving husband to my mum, a mentor, a role model, a coach, a team leader, an inspiration and a worthy leader, I say thank you so much for all you have done and yet to do and I LOVE YOU SO MUCH. This is dedicated to everybody that feels his/her dad has or has had a positive influence on his/her life. Follow on twitter: @kelsmooth_ng

I THINK SHE’S IN LOVE

I THINK SHE’S IN LOVE

There is a sparkle in her eyes
That every time she hides
After I analyze
It is only my eyes
That seems to realize

I saw the lines
Not only from the sides
They were not slimes
But suppressed smiles

I bet she tries
Her feelings she hides
But even from the skies
Angels could hear her cries
That she slides
Deep in sides
That I shouldn’t find

She takes long strides
Invisible but wide
It all coincides
But she’s afraid to collide

If her mind I could hypnotize
Her heart I would colonize
Her feelings she would initialize
Before she’ll ever realize

Our hearts we’ll combine
Our thoughts we’ll compile

But she hides that shine
The one in her eyes
I think she’s in love…
In love’s dirty dice.
